What would cause DSUSBCheck to fail?

Post by Ivor » Mon Sep 24, 2007 4:52 pm

I get the following:

Error initializing DSUSb adapter! Make sure its connected and try again.

The DSUSB is indeed connected, the LED is Red.
This is a known working port, the portit works fine with my Canon 350 XT

My computer is a IBM T60P Laptop, I even connected it to a USB port on the docking station incase it was a voltage issue, same problem.

Maybe a driver issue?

Thanks

This happens when the DSUSB is not talking to the computer. It is most likely because the DSUSB has gone bad, but it could be an intermittent connection. Try pushing in on the USB connector with your hand while trying DSUSBCheck. Also, have you tried any other software such as DSLR Shutter from http://www.stark-labs.com?

If your DSUSB is bad, we will ship you a replacement.

Looks like its something related to the port, I also have a GPUSB, and that fails the GPUSBCheck !

Ill try the DSLR shutter software, see what that does.

Thanks

Ok, so DSLR Shutter also fails to see the DSUSB.
I have tried a webcam and also my canon DSLR on that port, they work fine, its just the DSUSB and GPUSB that are not working.

What could it be?

This is very strange indeed, and the first time I have heard of such a problem.

Do you have access to a different computer that you could try the GPUSB and DSUSB on?

Yes, in fact I just tried them both on a desktop PC, they both work.

Im guessing I must have some sort of driver problem on the laptop.
Everything else I plug into the USB port works

This was my thought as well. It appears that the USB drivers in your laptop are not handling HID class USB devices very well. If you have a USB mouse, you might try that to see if it works. A normal USB mouse is also a member of the HID class.

Try searching the Internet for USB driver upgrades for this particular model of computer.

I just plugged in a Logitech mouse, and it detected it and it works without any problem.

Good hint about the Drivers, Ill check on the Levono web site and see if theres an update.

Thanks

Have you tried to uninstall and re-instally DSUSBCheck and GPUSBCheck? That would be a long shot, but maybe it will work.

I am definitely confused by this one, and don't have any good guesses on other things to try.

If you have not done so already, you might try some post to the various Yahoo groups. Perhaps another user has encountered this problem and found a solution.

Very strange, indeed. I wish I understood why this problem occurred. I am glad to hear that you have another machine that they work with.
