mscomctl.ocx not found

Post by gjmccormick » Fri Sep 19, 2008 6:50 pm

Hello Doug,
I am having a problem installing FocusPal. When I load the software, I get this erro..(mscomctl.com or one of its dependencies not correctly registered. a file is missing). Can you please help me? My computer died so I had to start from scratch with loading all of my software on a Windows XP Home Edition.

I had the same problem as below (component 'mscomctl.ocx' or one if its dependencies not correctly registered: a file is missing or invalid). After downloading & running "regsvr32 mscomctl.ocx", I get the message "the module 'mscomctl.ocx" may not compatable with the version of windows that you're running. check if the module is compatable with an x86 (32-bit) or x64 (64-bit ) version of refsvr32.exe". I am running windows7. Please help !!! I really do not want to return this product.

Regarding the Windows 7 issue, I did a google search on "mscomtl.ocx windows 7" and came up with these links:
http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums ... b8964430c5
and:
http://social.answers.microsoft.com/For ... 30eb17fdb4

Let me know if any of this advice takes care of the issue.

Doug, I found the fix from your info. The following helped me get FocusPal up & running with Windows7.

If you go to your C:\Windows\SysWOW64 directory and don’t see MSCOMCTL.OCX, download it from this link & place in C:\Windows\SysWOW64.

http://www.majorgeeks.com/faqshow.php?id=8

If you go to your C:\Windows\SysWOW64 directory and see MSCOMCTL.OCX in there then try this:

Browse to your command prompt shortcut via Start-->All Programs-->Accessories-->Command Prompt. Right click on that Command Prompt icon and choose and Run as administrator. Click Yes to tell UAC you really want to run it.

When the black window open with your command prompt type this in:

cd<push spacebar>C:\Windows\SysWOW64 <push Enter key>

The prompt should change to: C:\Windows\SysWOW64

They type:

regsvr32<push spacebar>mscomctl.ocx <push Enter key>

If you get a Window that pops up and says, "DllRegisterServer in mscomctl.ocx succeeded" then click OK and try the FocusPal install again.
Once again, Thanx !!!!
