Hi,
I purchased these items for use with my Nikon D5000 and BackYardNikon:

DSUSB USB Shutter Control Adapter
DSCBL-15

Everything I'd read led me to believe that this setup would work.

But when I try to use BULB to take a shot it just locks up the software and will not take a photo?

Can anyone help me please?

Pablo

I have not used BackYardNikon myself, but I'll make a few guesses.

Do you have both the DSUSB and the camera's USB cable running to your PC?

Have you tried DSUSBCheck to see if basic operation of the DSUSB is working?

If it looks like a BackYardNikon issue, have you tried their tech support?

Hi thanks for the help...

I do have both the DSUSB and the camer's USB cable connected to my PC. I am able to take other types of pictures with the BYNikon except with the Bulb option which I understood is what the DSUSB is for?

I'm not familiar with DSUSBCheck but I'll look into that next.

Assuming that works I'll reach out to BackYardNikon support.

Regarding the DSUSB cable...am I correct to be connecting it to the port that is marked as the GPS port? It's the only port on the camera that the DSCBL-15 cable would fit into

Yes, I believe it is the GPS port. I don't have access to one of these cameras myself, so going off of what I can find on the internet.

In addition to bulb mode, you might need to be in full manual mode and autofocus turned off. Just guessing here...

With DSUSBCheck, you may need to try various combinations of Open Shutter and Assert Wakeup. Usually, if you first Assert Wakeup, then Open Shutter, that should work.

Let me know what you find out.
