USB Shutter Control Adapter with Nikon D300

Post by ido » Fri Dec 10, 2010 12:55 pm

Hi
I want to use my Nikon D300 with ImagesPlus software.
Do I need the following:

1. USB Shutter Control Adapter
2. Cable for Nikon DSLRs with 10-pin connector, 3 feet
3. 6 foot M-F extension cable

Do I need anything else to connect ImagePlus with Nikon D300?

Thanks

Ido

That should be all you need: DSUSB, DSCBL-12 and optional DSCBL-03.

HI
I got the DSUSB unit and the Cable for Nikon DSLRs with 10-pin connector.
However, I cant control my camera via ImagesPlus software.
When I try to connect my D300 with the softawre - there is an eror massage:
No camera is connected to the software.
I downloded DSUSDCHECK - I can controll the color of the led (green red led on/off)
but when I click the other 4 options (open/close shutter, assert deassert)
nothing is going on my camera.
Please help me with this matter

I'm not sure of the details of the Nikon D300, but for most cameras they need to be put into the Bulb shutter mode for the remote control input to work. Also, many cameras require a certain combination of the Wakeup and Shutter signals. With DSUSBCheck, try this sequence
1) Assert AF/Wakeup
2) Open Shutter (hopefully the shutter will open)
3) Close Shutter (hopefully the shutter will close)
4) Deassert AF/Wakeup

You might also give DSLR Shutter from www.stark-labs.com a try.

Hi
I did the sequence as you suggested and the DSUSBCCheck works just fine (inc. shutter control)
However the Imagesplus still does not connect to my D300.
Any ideas ?

Thanks

If you have the proper camera selected in Images Plus, then it sounds like a bug with IP. Please contact Mike Unsold if that is the case.

Hi,

It wasn't clear from the DSUSB manual, but your steps below seem to indicate that the wake-up control (used for mirror-up, etc.) will be supported on a Nikon D300s, right?

In the manual, the wiring diagram for the stereo mini-jack shows the 'ring' on the connector as 'reserved'... is that what you connect the wakeup signal to?

Thanks,
-mark.

Mark,

I don't know the details on the D300, but that is most likely the case. With so many different cameras on the market, it is difficult to know the details about each one. It won't damage anything if you give it a try.

You are correct, it is the pin marked "Reserved" in the manual. Looks like its time to update the manual. Thanks for pointing this out.

If you can control the LED, the the connection to the DSUSB is working. The inconsistent shutter control is probably because it takes a certain sequence of asserting and de-asserting the Shutter and Wakeup signals.
