ST4 port does not work with EQ5

Post by mario » Sat Mar 01, 2014 9:07 am

Hi Doug,
I work with your GPUSB and my Orion Atlas and I'm very satisfied, never had problems.
I' ve got also a Vixen GP with EQ5 motors. Yesterday I saw that you teach how to install a ST4 port in an EQ5 pad and I follow your tutorial but it doesn't work. When I connect it to the GPUSB the Dec motor is always running and AR doesn't.
Later I tried with your ancient GPINT-PT and the software you provided with, but both axis were dead.
However the pad works well with its buttons.
I have poor experience soldering, so I attach a picture, can you ckeck if it's all ok? The brown wire is similar to your blue one.
Can you give me some advice about the problem?
Thank you very much in advance, regards from Spain.
Mario

Your wiring looks good at this end. Can you provide a picture of the connector at the other end of the cable that shows the wire colors there?

It is a Shoestring's wire, purchased here several years ago. Hope you can see the colours, it is not easy to photograph it :D

I don't think that is a Shoestring cable. Our cable has always had a blue wire, not a brown wire. Also, our cable have a gray jacket, not the color in your picture. All of our cables are built with the connector attached as shown in this document:

The connector is on the opposite direction. If you have the tools to put a new connector on, that would be one way to fix it. You could also reverse the color order of the wires when you solder them to the board.

Thank you very much for your answer Doug.
I thought it was the wire that you sent me with the GP port parallel unit some years ago. Sorry.
I was surprised to know that it was built in the opposite side, I´ll try to change the connector and thank you again for your help.

Dear Doug,
You were right, now the ST-4 port works properly.
However, I couldn't check if it can autoguide properly due to severe cloudy weather.
I wonder if it is possible to control the autoguide speed, say, 0,5 or 1 X.
Regards.
Mario
