GPUSB with MaximDL and Paramount

Post by idahoman » Sun Dec 02, 2007 8:51 pm

I have MaximDL 4.57, which supposedly has built in GPUSB support. I am trying to use a DSI Pro camera through MaximDL and GPUSB to guide a Paramount mount. I downloaded the latest ASCOM platform and the GPUSB ASCOM driver. In Maxim, I have tried GPUSB as well as ASCOM Direct with GPUSB. No matter which I use, the moment I plug the ST4 cable into the mount, the mount goes crazy. This is before I even try to guide. Do I need a virtual serial port? Am I missing something? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

This sounds like the classic symptoms of using the wrong RJ12 cable. Your cable must be wired pin 1 to pin 1 as outlined in this document:

Many RJ12 cables are wired pin 1 to pin 6. If you did not buy the RJ12 cable from us, check it very carefully to make sure it is wired pin 1 to pin 1.

So is the GPUSB adapter compatible with MaximDL. Is it regulated to complete autoguiding or can it control the mount for Polar Alignment procedures. thanks

Yes, the GPUSB is compatible with MaximDL. It is only for autoguiding, not polar alignment.
