GPINT with Images Plus and Maxim

Post by johnh » Fri Mar 23, 2007 4:50 pm

Has anyone experiance with this combination:

1. Images Plus v2.8 controlling a Canon 20D via a parallel shutterr cable
2. Shutter cable connects to the pass thru of a GPINT
3. Maxim EE guiding via the GPINT to ST4 on mount.

I got some odd behaviour - the Images Plus froze on one occasion waiting for the camera, on another the shutter triggered when IP was idle.

Each work reliably on their own. Is it possible to share a parallel port like this? Its under XP SP2?

John,

I have tried this combination myself. I do know that some software packages are capable of sharing the parallel port, but I don't know about the Images Plus / Maxim combination specifically. You might want to try a post on the Images Plus Yahoo group where you would hit a broader base of user knowledge.

I will try the IP group - but I believe I will be better off switching to USB/Serial for the shutter release...

Yes, by keeping only one function per port, there should be no problem with port contention.

Other options would include using a DSUSB from Shoestring for shutter control, or using the GPUSB from Shoestring instead of the GPINT-PT.
