Orion snyscan dobsonian xx12g

Would this work with the orion goto xx12g?

While the USB2EQ5 interface cable would work with this telescope since it uses the Synscan handcontroller, the problem is that it is an Alt-Az mount. The EQMOD ASCOM driver does not currently support Alt-Az mounts, only equatorial mounts.

Rats! It would indeed be a very good solution for dropping the price of astrophotography for the masses.

I agree. One other thing to keep in mind with an Alt-Az mount for astrophotography. For longer exposure times, you will suffer field rotation unless you include a derotator.

Agreed but it seem like that would still be cheaper than the usual EQ mount and such. One thing I really like about the dobsonian is it is compact. No weights sticking out and such. It seems like a much more elegant setup... granted getting great photos is a challenge because of the lack of worm gears and all that, but still.
Anyway... I will continue dreaming. :-)
