Longer length cable

Post by StarManFlorida » Fri Feb 22, 2019 8:45 am

I need the "USB2EQ5" cable that is 5.9 feet long. My question is can I get one that is longer - like 12 feet.

I can make them shorter easily, but not longer. They come precut to this length prior to me finishing the assembly. Also, the TTL signal levels coming out of the cable in to the mount are not intended to propagate well over long distances.

If you are only going 12 feet, a USB extension cable between PC and USB2EQ5 would be acceptable. If you have more than one USB device on the mount, a USB hub near the mount with a single USB cable going back to your PC is a good option.

Another option would be PC -> standard USB-to-serial converter -> serial extension cable -> EQDIR (from Shoestring) -> mount. RS232 serial port signals are intended to run over longer distances.

Thank you...

I hear allot about a powered USB system. Would that work along with the USB2EQ5 ?

IF SO, would you please recommend a possible source.

I am going to order the USB2EQ5 after I finish this message to you.

Thank you again... Frank

There are so many to choose from, I would hate to recommend one without knowing what your needs are for cable length to PC, distance to a power source and who your favorite retailer is. Here is one example, but the USB cord is pretty short.
