which part needed for my new EQ5 mount

Post by mtc » Tue Mar 06, 2018 2:31 pm

I have the GPUSB and accompanying RJ cable which I use on my older EQ3M mount (dual drive).
I'm looking at upgrading to the Sirius Goto (EQ5) mount.
Can I use this (GPUSB and RJ cable) on my EQ5 Mount - or do I need to use the USB2EQ5 adapter?

Thanks!

If you only want to do autoguiding, then the GPUSB is all you need. If you want to include the features that the EQMOD ASCOM driver can add to your equipment, then you would need to add the USB2EQ5.

ok, thanks.
The GPUSB says it has "optocouplers to electrically isolate the computer from the telescope, eliminating a possible source of electrical interference".
If I use the USB2EQ5, is this a concern that it doesn't have them?
Thanks for clarifying.

No, that is not a concern.
