EQ5 and dual axis non-goto

Post by rickchavo » Wed Dec 28, 2011 10:19 pm

Hi all! I'm Ricardo Calcagno, I live in Argentina (sorry if my english is somewhat rude) and trying to get into the atrophotography world. I own a Sky Watcher 200/1000 newt (I think Synta make these) with an EQ5 mount, and recently I added a dual axis motors kit, THE NON-GOTO VERSION. All I got was the motors, and a very simple (and cheapo-look'n'feel) handheld controller, since the SynScan GO-TO version was SOOOO much more expensive!

I was googling as how to add guiding capacities to my setup. I have a question: ALL I have to do is add the GPUSB, AND modify my handheld according to http://www.store.shoestringastronomy.com/eq_mod.pdf?

That's all? With this, a small scope, a notebook with PHD and a webcam I will be able to guide my scope?

Thanks! Ricardo.

This will not turn your mount into a GOTO mount. This will allow your mount to make the small, slow tracking corrections that are needed during a long exposure astrophotograph.

If you want to do a GOTO modification, a possibility might be EQMOD. See http://tech.groups.yahoo.com/group/EQMOD/ for more information.
