Pin Layout

Post by saturn5pc » Fri Jan 01, 2010 2:54 pm

I just have a question about the Pin Layout of the RJ-11 cable and my Sphinx SXD mount. The cable I just purchased, along with the GSUSB, has a Pin layout as follows:
Pin 1 - Not Used
Pin 2 - Gnd
Pin 3 - RA+
Pin 4 - Dec+
Pin 5 - RA-
Pin 6 - Dec-

But the Sphink SXD is set up with the following Pin Layout:

Pin 1 - Empty
Pin 2 - Gnd
Pin 3 - RA-
Pin 4 - Dec-
Pin 5 - Dec +
Pin 6 - RA+
Will this pose a problem if this is just hooked-up, or do I need to create a new cable to match the Pin layout of the GSUSB? Thanks.

Paul,

I believe you have the pinout for the GPUSB incorrect. The correct pinout is shown on page 3 of our User Manual at:
http://store.shoestringastronomy.com/Us ... _GPUSB.pdf

As long as the RA pin pair and Dec pin pair line up, the system should work just fine. Because there are many places in the optical system where inversions can occur, most autoguide software apps can figure out the correct polarity to use.

Thus, your GPUSB and cable should work just fine with your SXD.

Hi Paul-

I'm a Sphinx owner also and thinking about loading up on Shoestring gear. I made the same observation that you made about the pin polarity. How did it work for you?

Thanks!
