GPUSB Checker Issue

Post by jpreston1845 » Mon Oct 26, 2009 10:11 am

I've just recently purchased the GPUSB and went into doing the checks using the software and came up with some problems.

I have a Meade LX200GPS and when I did the check the Red/Green LED check worked but when I clicked on RA+ the Dec drive kicked in, then I clicked Dec+ and the RA drive turned on. When I went to do either RA- or Dec- nothing happened. I've tried several of the cables to no avail. Am I doing something wrong?

This is certainly odd behavior. Are you using one of our RJ12 cables?

Doug,

Yes I am. I had the same result using an original Meade cable also just to verify.
By the way when I first clicked on the RA+ or Dec+ it nearly took my head off as it slewed at max speed. I expected the slowest slew travel per the info I've read out there. I won't have my ear too close next time ;)

Any ideas? Any kind of test I should try?

The cabling must be wired pin 1 to pin 1 as shown in this document:
http://store.shoestringastronomy.com/gu ... cables.pdf

Check you cables to be sure they are wired this way. Ours should be wired different than the Meade cable. Given that you are seeing the same behavior with the Meade cable, I suspect that all the cables you have are wired the wrong way to work with the GPUSB. Perhaps we sent you a mis-wired cable.

Let me know if you have any cables wired the correct way, and if so, if that fixes the problem.

Looking at the cable they are switched from one end to the other just like the Meade cables. #1-White becomes #1-Blue

OK, that sounds like the problem. Send your shipping address to doug@shoestringastronomy.com and I will get a cable out to you. Also specify whether you want 7, 14, or 25 feet long.

Doug,

No sweat, I had extra connectors and made the change, everything is peachy! Test ran perfect. Thanks for the quick response and the of course the right answers. Look forward in trying this out tonight for the first time.

Doug,

Do you know when I use PHD should I be selecting ASCOM or GPUSB under the mount option? The reason I ask is that when I select GPUSB is shows it connected but when I go with the ASCOM and select a port it says the drivers failed to load?

Either should work, but since PHD supports the GPUSB directly, I'd recommend that.
