Post by gjmccormick » Sun Aug 03, 2008 1:37 am

Hello ,
My name is Gary McCormick. I am getting the error: Error iniitializing the FCUSB adapter. Make sure it is connected and try again. This is a new laptop, but with windows XP Home ruuning. It worked on my old computer, so I know the adapter works. I have tried it on 4 differant USB ports. I have installed and uninstalled the software 4 times. Same error. Could someone PLEASE Help me.

Gary,

One thing you might try if you have a few other USB devices connected to your computers is to disconnect some of the other USB devices and then plug the DSUSB in. We have seen a few cases where other USB devices conflict by exceeding the maximum number of USB HID devices that our Shoestring DLLs will look through. Let me know if this helps, I can rewrite our DLLs to look through a greater number of HID devices which might help with this problem.

OK, I have modified the FCUSB DLL. Please test it out and let me know if it takes care of the problem. You can find the new DLL at:
http://store.shoestringastronomy.com/do ... SB_DLL.dll

Simply download it and replace the existing copy of ShoestringFCUSB_DLL.dll with the new one. You might need to use the search feature of Windows Explorer to find where the existing file is located.

Excellent!! Thanks for verifying. I'll get the new DLLs for all our USB products rolled out as quick as I can.

I have the same problem. I have all three devices: autoguide port interface, focus control, and shutter control. So it can really annoying trying to get these things to find a port. I end up having to unplug my other USB devices then activate the above mentioned products first then reconnect all my other USB devices. I typically end up doing this several times a night depending on how I change configuration, if a program locks up, ... so if you have updated files for all of these devices then I will be happy to test them for you. Other than this these products are huge time savers.

I have updated DLLs for the GPUSB, FCUSB, DSUSB, and LXUSB and placed them on our website. All other applications such as GPUSBCheck, FocusPal, etc, have been updated as well. Links to all our downloads can be found at:

Let me know if anyone finds further problems.
